Cais Matilde

I am an Energy and Nuclear Engineer currently engaged as a PhD Student in the 41th PhD Cycle in Energetics at Politecnico di Torino.
I began collaborating with the MAHTEP Group during my master’s thesis, which focused on Energy System Optimization Models. The objective of my work was to assess the techno-economic conditions under which a SuperConducting Energy Pipeline could become competitive for the hybrid transmission of electricity and hydrogen within the Italian energy system. The technology was included in a TEMOA model instance of the Italian power and hydrogen sectors, characterized by regional spatial discretization to provide a simplified representation of the current electricity transmission network, to test its feasibility in different scenarios.
My PhD activity aims at applying energy models to explore potential electrification pathways for the transport sector, considering the operational impacts on the power system by developing modeling capabilities within power system modeling frameworks (e.g., PyPSA, Calliope).
