Alfano Maria Elena

I am an Environmental and Land Engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently involved in a research fellowship at the Energy Department at Politecnico di Torino. My current research activity deepens and extends what started during my Master’s Degree thesis, which was about the integrated modeling of the Energy and Water systems in an Open Access Energy System Optimization Model (ESOM). Specifically, I am focusing on the trade-off between water and energy in mountain areas. My contribution to the project is expected to consist in building a modeling tool that can holistically assess energy and water resources.

I have applied to enroll in the PhD program for the 39th cycle, which is set to begin on November 1st, 2023, to pursue further studies in water and energy system modeling. Specifically, I would like to improve the simulation of water-related aspects in integrated models by mean of tools that act on limited time scale and considering hydrogeological parameters in larger detail, in order to include more refined water resource data in the ESOM framework.
