ATTRACT
Project title: Decentralized Building-Integrated Solar Water Production Systems
Project acronym: ATTRACT
Funded organization: Eureka, Eurostars 3 - Call 5
Partners: Politecnico di Torino, Sorption Technologies srl, MG sustainable Engineering AB,
Solarus Renewable AB
Period: 2024-2027
Summary:
The ATTRACT project proposes a new solution for future “smart” buildings, providing a decentralized clean water production system on the building envelope. The solar energy on the building structure is exploited to supply heat for water production through a promising technology, vertical multi-effect diffusion desalination solar still (VMEDSS), which makes drinkable water for residences in areas affected by clean water scarcity. The project focuses on developing and testing the proposed solution in different caviling contexts.
Currently, over 5 billion people around the world are living in regions that suffer from water scarcity, or have no access to safe and clean water, while ~3 billion people do not have access to sanitation. Moreover, the current trend in climate change conditions is exposing threats to water resources in less vulnerable areas such as Europe. ATTRACT targets the development of a building-integrated sustainable technique for decentralized water production. If successful, the project will demonstrate that ATTRACT is a high-productive design over other technologies and must be considered a leading technology among other decentralized water production systems.
Based on the measured performance and by analyzing the competition and gathering customer feedback, ATTRACT will develop a pricing strategy that is competitive and appealing to potential buyers. Once a clear understanding of the market and customer needs is done, ATTRACT will focus on adapting the product features to the needs. By continuously refining the product and adapting to changing market conditions, ATTRACT will create a sustainable business model that brings profits for years to come.
