Decommissioning
Decomissioning of spent fission nuclear reactor is one of the most challenging issues of these decades. The majority of the European reactors are approaching the end of their useful lifetime, but a proper decomissioning plan is not forecast for most of the nuclear power plans (NPP) yet. The aim of this research topic is to establish new advanced decomissioning procedures to efficiently decomission light water reactors (LWR). Our research focuses on new methods for the cutting of the reactor components and novel decontamination procedures which might drastically reduce the amount of nuclear waste of the NPP decomissioning plan.
