Solar receivers

In accordance with the other research activities in the MAHTEP research group, the solar studies were founded based on the vision of contributing to the energy transition, by applying analytical and numerical tools to the advanced heat transfer problems in power and energy engineering. The group focuses on issues related to the thermal processes in the solar industry, including the design and investigation of solar systems with complex designs, and the application of emerging solutions such as porous materials, micro-channels, and Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) with heat removal mechanisms. The main applied analytical approach is based on strong methodological developments in numerical analysis, with special emphasis on mathematical modeling and extensive exploitation of computational fluid dynamics. In addition, optical simulations are developed for ray-tracing problems, focusing on receiver shape optimization and solar flux identification.
