Conceptual design of the feeders for the superconducting coils for the EU DEMO and DTT machines

Activity performed by Laura Savoldi, for the EU-DEMO in the framework of the EUROfusion Work Package "Magnets", in tight collaboration with the Swiss Plasma Center, and for the DTT in collaboration with ENEA.

Objective of the activity: Development a comprehensive pre-conceptual design for the feeders for the Central Solenoid Modules, Poloidal Field Coils and Toroidal Field Coils of the EU DEMO and DTT machines.

Framework of the activity:

We address the preliminary (pre-conceptual) design of the feeders, considering the main functions they should carry out, and namely:

  • to connect the magnets to their power supply.
  • to convey the cryogenic fluid to the magnet system.
  • to house the instrumentation channels needed to operate and monitor the functioning of the coil system.
  • to provide an adequate interface to the cryostat.
  • to provide an adequate interface to the cryoplant.
  • to provide an adequate interface to the power supply.
  • to provide an adequate interface to the vacuum.
  • to provide an adequate interface to the control system.
  • to provide grounding (through the feeder containment duct and the cryostat) to the magnet casing.
